MHI Take Delivery of First Irish Built Vessel

21.05.2012
MHI Take Delivery of First Irish Built Vessel Yesterday was a significant day for Marine Harvest Ireland as we took delivery of our first made in Ireland vessel. Orchid built by Beara Iron Works is not only the first built for us but also the first vessel of this nature ever to be built in Castletownbere. A 15.6 metre work vessel it will be used to service our aquaculture facilities in the South West.
Ensuring the whole community was involved it was left to local schoolboy Darragh Fenner from Scoil An Chroi Ró Naofa who won the vessel naming competition and to launch the vessel yesterday. If you would like to find out more about the building of the vessel please tune in to Sea Scapes on RTE Radio 1 this Friday (May25th) where Joseph Gibbons of MHI and Michael O’Shea of Beara Iron Works talk about the building of Orchid.
