GLOBAL AQUACULTURE ALLIANCE GROUP VISIT

As part of a week long training programme on GAA Best Aquaculture Practices which was facilited by Global Trust Certification, a group of mostly American members of the Global  Aquaculture Alliance  visited Clare Island Seafarm recently.  GAA have recently published a Salmon standard for Saltwater and there was interest in seeing a farm first hand.   Most of the attendees had never visited a salmon farm before.

Global Aquaculture Alliance is a leading international organization dedicated to advancing environmentally and socially responsible aquaculture and a safe supply of seafood to meet growing world food needs.

Organized in 1997, the non-profit NGO develops the Best Aquaculture Practices certification standards and encourages the use of responsible aquaculture practices. GAA also works to improve production and marketing efficiencies, and promote effective, coordinated regulatory and trade policies.

The group were highly impressed by the operations and the knowledge of the staff who greatly helped raise their understanding of salmon farming in such open waters.
